Overview
Exploring new frontiers in medicine and cultivating medical talent have long been core missions of Tsinghua Medicine. Over the past two decades of continued dedication and development, the School of Medicine (formerly the Medical School) has evolved from focusing primarily on cutting-edge scientific research and medical talent training to building a translational medicine platform and promoting public health awareness, embracing a comprehensive approach to development. During this journey, the School of Basic Medical Sciences has forged ahead, steadily strengthening collaborations with top academic institutions, medical centers, government bodies, non-profit organizations, and enterprises both domestically and internationally. These efforts have contributed to the sustained advancement of basic medical sciences, the progress of modern medicine, and the realization of a Healthy China.
Government Cooperation: For a long time, the School of Medicine (Former School of Medicine)has been striving to develop cooperative relationships with various ministries and directly affiliated institutions of the State Council. It has jointly established the Medical Supervision Science Research Center with the Drug Evaluation Center (CDE) of the State Food and Drug Administration, jointly carried out graduate training projects with the Military Medical Research Institute of the Academy of Military Sciences, and jointly established the China Indonesia Vaccine and Genome Joint Research and Development Center with the Indonesian Ministry of Health and university enterprises. As an important way to serve the construction of a "Healthy China" for the country and promote the development of the pharmaceutical and health industry, the School of Basic Medical Sciences actively engages in strategic cooperation with government agencies and has achieved fruitful results and experience. Recently, the China Indonesia Joint Research and Development Center for Vaccines and Genomes held its unveiling ceremony at the Southeast Asia Center of Tsinghua University.
International Collaboration: The School of Basic Medical Sciences has attracted a large number of outstanding international senior professors and young researchers, actively engaging in collaboration with top medical schools and research institutes worldwide in pursuit of breakthroughs at the forefront of biomedical science. These efforts have significantly enhanced the global influence of China’s academic research and education in basic medical sciences.
The School of Medicine (formerly the Medical School) has established partnerships with world-renowned institutions such as the University of Melbourne Medical School (Australia), the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College, the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Washington, and the University of California, Berkeley. These collaborations span MD/PhD education, postdoctoral training, academic exchange, and research projects, with faculty and researchers from the School of Basic Medical Sciences playing a central and vital role in these joint initiatives.
Hospital Collaboration: The School of Basic Medical Sciences is committed to building strong connections and collaborative networks with leading hospitals and disease-oriented research centers both in China and abroad. These partnerships facilitate the translation of scientific research into clinical applications while also ensuring that challenges arising in clinical practice are effectively fed back into basic research for further exploration and resolution.
The School of Medicine (formerly the Medical School) has established translational medicine alliances with hospitals such as Shandong Provincial Hospital, Anhui Provincial Hospital, and the People’s Hospital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, aiming to promote the development of translational medicine and the training of relevant talent.
