Research Areas:
Based on the physiological and pathological mechanisms of human body and model organisms, we are exploring the influence of electromagnetic radiation on organism and biological structure and its interaction. Our experiment involved biochemical techniques (WB and histochemistry, etc.), electrophysiological techniques (brain patch clamp, in vivo single channel electrophysiology, in vivo multi-channel techniques, chemical genetics and optogenetics) and animal behaviors (pain and depression-like behavior, etc.).
Wefound that prolonged exposure to 2.4-GHz electromagnetic radiation (EMR) modulated by 100-Hz square pulses at nonthermal output level results in markedly increased time of wakefulness in mice. Notably, alteration of sleep behavior by EMR depends upon not just carrier frequency but also frequency and mode of the modulation. Our study is the first systematic demonstration of the crucial influence modulation frequency, carrier frequency, and modulation mode of EMR on mice sleep/wakefulness behaviors alteration. These systematic, novel, reproducible and robust observations may constitute a valuable resource for the field and serves as a basis for future understanding on the perception of electromagnetic radiation by animals.
