The Tsinghua University Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Research Center is China’s first research center that organically combines biomedical and social sciences in HIV/AIDS research. Since its establishment in 2007, the center has been committed to conducting research in the areas of basic science, clinical applications, and social sciences related to HIV/AIDS. The center’s main research directions include the pathogenesis of the HIV virus, the development of antiviral drugs and vaccines for HIV, and the development of novel immunological strategies and technologies for HIV treatment, as well as policies for HIV prevention and health communication. In recent years, with the emergence of new and unexpected infectious diseases, the center has also conducted research on antibody drugs and vaccines for emerging infectious diseases. In the research on the novel coronavirus, the center developed a cocktail of monoclonal antibodies targeting the virus, which has entered Phase II clinical trials in China and Phase III clinical trials in multiple countries worldwide. The center also developed a COVID-19 vaccine, which has entered Phase I clinical trials in China. In the future, the center will continue to contribute its wisdom and efforts to advancing the comprehensive prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and emerging infectious diseases in China, adhering to the spirit of exploration, bold innovation, self-improvement, and moral integrity.
